Where were YOU?

Twenty Six years ago on April 15th, 1980 about 300 ‘taxpayers’ who wanted to change a fraudulent tax system paraded from the IRS office in downtown Philadelphia to Independence Mall.

First they had a skit… they had one of their own ‘pass away’ right in the main office of the IRS in front of about 500 people in line to pay their government. When the 6 people wearing uniforms with a Gestapo arm bands appeared with a stretcher to carry the ‘deceased’ out of the building, it was just like a ‘Keystone cop movie’, police running every which way. They could not find the body, someone had taken it down the service elevator to a waiting horse drawn carriage to be paraded down 5th street with the 300 ‘mourners’ following the ‘Dixieland’ band singing….”this poor man was taxed to death.” Can you picture that scene? See Chapter 4, pages 55 to 60.

This parade took place at Noon as office workers were leaving for their lunch break. The curious just could not resist…neither could all 3 T.V. stations, and when we finally arrived and the ‘dead man arose’ when a copy of the U.S. Constitution was placed in his hands and he ‘sat up’ and said….”I have Rights”, the band started to play “Oh when the saints come marching in”….all 10,000 watchers began to dance and sing. I don’t think the government swat team on the roof of the surrounding buildings was too happy, but we sure had a great time that day. I don’t think anyone who participated in this ‘great moment in American History’ will every forget it!

It was a lot of work….but it was worth it! It is our History!
